FORMER KB United players David Jones and Phil Dando will address Adamstown and Kahibah players today before the Bob Mountford Memorial match at Adamstown Oval.

Mountford coached Rosebud to the first-division title this season but died on August 26, only two days after his club's 1-0 grand final win over Maitland, following a long battle with colon cancer.

The English-born striker first came to Newcastle in 1978 as a guest player with KB United before joining the side on a full-time basis in 1981.

A large contingent of ex-KB United players are expected to turn out for the charity match.

Jones said it was important that the players from both teams knew the importance of the match to the Newcastle soccer community.

"A lot of those guys won't know who he was, because most of them wouldn't have seen Bob play," Jones said.

"I'm just going to say what sort of player he was that he played up front and took no prisoners.

"He had a good pedigree and was a well-respected player in England in the lower grades."

The Adamstown and Kahibah first-grade sides will clash at 1pm, after the reserve grade fixture at 11.30am.

All players involved in the match are expected to sign an English jersey that will be given to Mountford's wife Jane and children Paul and Anna.

All money raised on the day will go to the NSW Cancer Council.

Gold coin donations will be accepted at the entry and there will be a raffle to win soccer balls signed by former Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Bosnich.
